02 | On My Mind & In My Cart
Hair perfume, unrequited love, beef tallow, and buying your own birthday presents
These last two weeks have been a doozy, so thank you for your patience. I’m writing this as I lay horizontal in bed with a cold. I forgot how shitty colds are but they make for great free-time writing opportunities.
Moving forward, all subscribers will have access to the On My Mind portion of this series with the In My Cart part reserved for those of you who pay (nervous giggle). If you’re interested in knowing what I’m eyeing and obsessing over, perhaps consider supporting Storey Times so that we can obsess together.
Without further ado, here’s what’s…
On My Mind:
Wearing: These RLT pants are the reason I get dressed in the morning without moaning. They’re flattering. They’re comfy. They look like a trouser but feel like a sweat pant. You should probably get them (they often sell out).
Trying: I made my first purchase on TikTok last week for beef tallow balm. According to the singular video I watched, beef tallow does wonders for the skin barrier and is noncomedogenic. Yes, it has an off-putting smell but I consider it worth it because I wake up GLOWING. Hold please for next week’s review.
Loving: I am officially a baseball cap person now. I feel some type of way when wearing one. I love this cashmere one and told myself I could pull the trigger once I’ve worn the one I own at least 27 times (AKA the number it takes to form a habit). I’m on wear #16.
Appreciating Pt. 1: This year I bought my own birthday presents that my respective loved ones gave me. Mazel tov if you like surprises, I am not that gal. The one surprise I did get came from my cousin, who knows me so well that she referenced my last “in my cart” post. I am nothing if not strategic.
Reminiscing: I can’t even begin to explain how beautiful I felt in this gown I wore to an event last Saturday for Keep Memory Alive, a foundation supporting the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. We raised over $10M for the cause and I must admit, I looked like a million of those.

Reading: White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky. A short story about unrequited love that a dear male friend (un)ironically recommended to me. Pointed recommendation? Yes. Fabulous piece of literature? Also yes.
Watching: Paradise on Hulu. My parents recommended it to me and usually I am wary to take on their TV recs but I’m three episodes in and… intrigued. A dystopian political thriller that I’m 99% sure is shot on the Gilmore Girls set? Count me in.
Drooling: I don’t remember much about my birthday party last week but I do remember this cake and how much I loved my outfit. It took 27 birthdays to find out Sweet Lady Jane made gluten free cakes. Sincerest apologies to my dear baby sister who will be responsible for feeding me the triple berry cake for the my next however-many birthdays.
Pop-Culture-ing: So the Fyre Festival is coming back and they’re selling a ticket that’s $1,100,000. Pardon me, but whoever pays for that ticket, please send them my way, I’d like to ask them to write me a check too.
Wondering: Speaking of music things that are making me go *humph*, when is Taylor Swift announcing and releasing Reputation Taylor’s Version because I’m starting to lose my shit.
Appreciating Pt. 2: 3am Taco Bell Dorito Supreme Tacos. They do something to the soul. As do jazz clubs and a good pair of sexy boots.
